Battered Hilt - Epic Drop Rate Changes; Based on feedback we’ve been provided by players, we’d like to make you aware of a couple of changes we are applying to Icecrown Citadel: The Frozen Halls via in-game fixes. Firstly, we are increasing the drop rate of the Battered Hilt in all three wings of this Heroic five-player dungeon. We have seen a great deal of discussion about this item’s chance of dropping since the release of patch 3.3.0 and agree that it is currently too low. As a result, players should find greater accessibility to this item while running these dungeons, or while trading with other players who have it.

In light of this change, we are also removing the chance for the Battered Hilt or any other epic item to drop from the Skeletal Slaves in the Pit of Saron. The need to “farm” these creatures for the Battered Hilt should be reduced by our first in-game fix and will no longer result in a chance for epic loot or Battered Hilts.

You’re welcome to discuss these changes in this thread and provide us with any additional feedback you may have. Please refrain from creating additional threads about these in-game fixes at this time.

If you haven’t heard the rumors yet, Patch 3.3 may be hitting servers tomorrow in WoW. This patch will finally let players into Icecrown Citadel to battle against the Lich King and his remaining trusted elite. I previously talked about the 5-man dungeons in a preview as well as once we got some more details. Now that the PTR has been out for awhile many players have had the chance to check out these dungeons and get an idea on what these encounters will be like. I know that after I rolled a premade I enjoyed playing around in the new instances and was quite impressed.

This patch will also bring to close the story of the Lich King for all of the Lore fans. I know that I’m excited to see how everything plays out both on the Horde side as well as Alliance as heroes going through the dungeons will be accompanied by Sylvannas and Jaina respectively. We will also find out the fates of Bolvar Fordragon and Dranosh Saurfang. Both heroes seem to have been brought back to serve the Lich King, with Bolvar possibly fighting against the Lich King’s will.

Endgame aside, there are also going to be some other major changes. The one that I’m very excited for is the cross-realm PUG system. I think that implementing the ability to queue for PUGs (QQing about ninjas and bad players aside) will ultimately be a good thing. I know that sometimes I have an issue trying to find a group for some heroics, or a group that will even stick together for chain heroics. Being able to queue and get partnered with people for these will make things a bit less painful when I want to do heroics. Along the same lines, [Looking for Group] chat channel will now be available in all cities like General and Trade, so now you don’t have to be in the LFG module in order to be in that channel.

Another cool addition is the new Kalu’ak Fishing Derby which will happen every Wednesday beginning at 8pm. Elder Clearwater will be waiting in Dalaran for the quickest player to return with a Blacktip Shark. The first player to return with the Blacktip Shark will receive a reward, and players who also return before Elder Clearwater leaves will also receive a reward. Also because of this new fishing event, the “Master Angler of Stranglethorn” achievement is being changed to “Master Angler of Azeroth” which can be won by doing either the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby or the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza.

Tier 10 armor will also be introduced this patch, and as a hunter I’m not too thrilled with my rhino armor. In general none of the new T10 sets really popped out to me, but I do like the Mage, Priest and Warlock sets. MMO Champion has a great guide here with pictures of the new sets as well as stats and cost. Along with the new Tier comes a new legendary weapon: Shadowmourne. This new weapon is only acquired after completing a quest line, and will be sought after by Warriors, Paladins and Death Knights. There is a great guide on MMO Champion for the questline and videos are included as well!

This will prove to be one hefty patch, and this is further indicated by the lengthy PTR notes on the official site. I only advise that some of this could change once the patch goes live, but I could be wrong. You can always keep track of current patch notes on the official site here.

Hopefully we see this patch drop tomorrow! What aspects of the next patch are you looking forward to? Are there things you think should be changed or just not included?

In parting I want to share this amazing video that was created by Kinaesthesia from Vodka (US-Alterac Mountains) that I saw. It’s a really good preview of the 5-man dungeons and is very spoiler heavy for those concerned by such things. I’ve put it below for those not caring about spoilers to enjoy!

Fishing is one of the WoW’s secondary professions, together with cooking and first aid, which is considered as one of the most difficult to level up. It was no t until Burning Crusade expansion that fishing was even considered as useful. With the new cooking recipes that had a major impact on the improvement of your character in a RAID, fishing has become a very useful and valued profession. Wrath of the Lich King expansion in 2008 brought us also expansion in fishing. There are many new achievements when it comes to fishing and cooking, fun daily quests and plenty of new recipes which all contributed in making cooking and fishing more popular. Click here for more on fishing: WoW Fishing

With successful completion of fishing achievements you are able to get a special fisherman’s title “Salty”, and the fun part is, there are not many players who have it. For this title one has to complete a series of fishing achievements, such as The Coin Master and Angler of Stranglethorn, which demands completing various fishing assignments and winning fishing contest held on Sundays in Booty Bay. You will also need to win on a Sunday’s Booty Bay fishing contest for the Master Angler of Stranglethorn achievement, do all of the five fishing daily quests found in Dalaran for the Chasing Marcia achievement, fish from different types of fish schools in Outland and Northrend, etc.

As you can see, fishing is very useful, and it can be quite profitable too. If you decide to level up fishing you don’t need to level up cooking as well, however, these two professions are a perfect match so an advice would be to level them both together.

How can I make money with fishing?

Well, the answer is simple - fish! There are many zones with very lucrative fish schools where you can fish. Only by selling your raw catch on the AH you may profit considerably. However, if you have cooking leveled up than the best thing would be to make food. There are many recipes for food that give stamina, spirit, spell power, attack power, agility, strength, haste, hit and crit buffs.

There is a special food for hunters’ pets and for the whole RAID - Fish Feast. The Fish Feast is made from three different types of fish and Northern Spices, which can be obtained by completing Dalaran cooking daily quests. The Fish Feast is useful because anyone in your group/raid can eat it and receive 80 attack power, 46 spell power and 40 stamina bonus on stats for 1 hour. Fishing is a useful and nice profession to level up and when combined with cooking it can greatly boost anyone. However, anybody who ever tried or leveled fishing can tell you that leveling of this wonderful profession goes slower than with any other.

When it comes to fishing equipment, you need to have a fishing pool and lures which are used to increase your skill, and of course, a good fishing spot. Other than that, as in real life so in WoW, you will need a lot of patience. The process of fishing goes slow since you need to wait a few seconds for a fish to bite.

If you think it is going way too slow, don’t give up yet. Be patient until you leveled up your fishing up to certain skill level where you can start doing daily fishing quests. Your leveling will be much easier and more rewarding from that point on. For a comprehensive guide on all aspects of WoW check out the WoW Ultimate Guide

Blizzard has just released their preview of the Icecrown Citadel RAID instance, which will be launching with Patch 3.3. This comes about a week after they released the Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeon preview.

Some of the key pieces of information from the preview:

  • “Join the legendary heroes Highlord Tirion Fordring, High Overlord Saurfang, Muradin Bronzebeard, Highlord Darion Mograine, and King Varian Wrynn in an epic battle against the Scourge and their master.”
  • “Icecrown Citadel features 10- and 25-player versions of the RAID dungeon, and each version has 12 encounters. Each encounter can be fought in either normal or Heroic mode, and players can use a new user interface feature to toggle easily between difficulties.”
  • “The rewards in the RAID dungeon start at item level 251 in the normal mode with 10-player encounters, increase to item level 264 in the Heroic mode mode with 10 players and the normal mode with 25-player encounters, and then finally reach item level 277 in the Heroic mode with 25 players.”
  • “…two new forms of abomination in Festergut and Rotface, who currently protect their devious creator, Professor Putricide.”

All across the lands of Northrend, many battles have been fought against the vile Scourge. Countless lives have been lost since the Alliance and Horde first reached the frozen wastes, but the champions of Azeroth continue to march forward. Now Icecrown Citadel, the cornerstone of the Scourge’s power and the home base of the Lich King, is their final target. Tirion Fordring and the Argent Crusade have forged an alliance with Darion Mograine and the Knights of the Ebon Blade to form the Ashen Verdict. The strongest combatants of this coalition, along with the champions of the Alliance and Horde, will lead the charge against the citadel.

This dungeon reveals the culminating story events and battles of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack. Join the legendary heroes Highlord Tirion Fordring, High Overlord Saurfang, Muradin Bronzebeard, Highlord Darion Mograine, and King Varian Wrynn in an epic battle against the Scourge and their master. Icecrown Citadel features 10- and 25-player versions of the RAID dungeon, and each version has 12 encounters. Each encounter can be fought in either normal or Heroic mode, and players can use a new user interface feature to toggle easily between difficulties. The rewards in the RAID dungeon start at item level 251 in the normal mode with 10-player encounters, increase to item level 264 in the Heroic mode mode with 10 players and the normal mode with 25-player encounters, and then finally reach item level 277 in the Heroic mode with 25 players.

Grand Entrance of the Citadel

After breaching the fortress, players will face a legion of undead guards directed to repel any invaders. Commanding the defenders is Lord Marrowgar, a monstrosity fused together from the bones of the undead. Supreme Overseer of the Cult of the Damned, Lady Deathwhisper is the next opponent. She bolsters the faith of her followers by promising them the opportunity to give eternal service in undeath.

As they continue their ascent, the Alliance and Horde heroes ultimately end up outside of the citadel where their hatred for one another erupts into a battle for dominance over the Rampart of Skulls. Players will join in battle alongside High Overlord Saurfang on the Orgrim’s Hammer gunship or Muradin Bronzebeard on The Skybreaker in a unique encounter. Each faction will protect its gunship and try to destroy the other one in a back-and-forth battle to see who is truly worthy of facing the Lich King.

The Lich King’s most powerful death knight then stands as the final obstacle for the heroes to enter the upper reaches of the citadel.

The Wings of Icecrown Citadel

After the heroes of the Alliance or Horde defeat the other faction on the gunships and wipe out the creatures near the entrance, players will venture into an area with three separate wings. Here they will face a multitude of terrors that must be vanquished in order to confront the Lich King.

In the Frostwing Halls players will battle alongside the Ashen Verdict and push into the lair of the deadly frost wyrm Sindragosa, who continues to strengthen her brood with the help of Ymirheim’s vrykul. Along the way, the heroes will stumble upon Valithria Dreamwalker, a captured green dragon whom the Scourge is using as a test subject for their own ends….

The Plagueworks contains the most twisted experiments ever produced by the Scourge. In this wing players will face two new forms of abomination in Festergut and Rotface, who currently protect their devious creator, Professor Putricide.

The Crimson Hall contains the leaders of the San’layn, undead blood elves who oversee the Scourge’s operations throughout Azeroth. The blood-princes Valanar, Keleseth, and Taldaram were raised into undeath by the Lich King to avenge themselves while protecting their blood-queen, Lana’thel.
